Peter Ajimoko's Story
Every year, millions of Africans have left their homes, families, and communities to settle and make new homes on continents miles away. They take root, adapting to different cultures and traditions. But what happens to the ones left behind? How do these individuals defy distance and time to maintain a strong presence in their home country?
Peter Ajimoko takes us through how he cuts through the miles, keeping home close amidst frightening emergencies, with support, love and a little help.
Be Home Your Way is a collaboration between LemFi and Visa. It features stories of people thriving through the seamless financial connections they offer.
It was a regular workday for Peter until a call shattered the routine: his mother in Nigeria had been rushed to the hospital.
"I remember a call came in while I was at work,” Peter recalls. “They told me that my mom was at the hospital."
Understandably, he was confused and panicky as he shared, "I was like, what is going on? I just spoke to her yesterday."
Sometimes, life throws us curve balls, and in Peter's case, his came with a countdown, "'I had limited time, and they said the doctors needed a certain amount to be deposited before they can proceed."
The situation was dire, and time was against them. The hospital needed an upfront deposit before treatment could begin. They were able to figure it out together and transfer a deposit to the hospital, kickstarting his mother's treatment and ultimately leading to her recovery.
“The LemFi transfer was smooth and effective, allowing me to pay the bills on time,” he shared. Peter’s quick and sure approach allowed doctors to proceed with his mother’s treatment without delay—a moment that will forever be unforgettable.
For Peter, being home for his loved ones in Nigeria is portrayed in his devotion to supporting them by taking on the weight of their financial burdens and showing up in times of need.
This is evident in his response when asked how often he uses the LemFi app to make transfers home; "I do it regularly because I can't do without making transfers, maybe once or twice a week."
Beyond frequent transfers, Peter has served as a helper in other critical moments. One such instance involved his family friend who got into trouble with Nigerian legal authorities. "They gave them a time frame that if the money is not paid, the boy will be taken to court", Peter said. He jumped into action and sent money to settle the legal fees. "Immediately, I did the transaction; it was so swift. The authorities received the money, and the boy was released the same day," he recalled.
Peter represents our users: people who work hard but care harder for those closest to their hearts. So it's no surprise that his siblings and cousins living in the UK, following his stride, also use LemFi to connect with loved ones back home. "It's like a major app we use. Other apps have been deleted," he chuckled.
Peter’s relationship with LemFi started with a cousin’s recommendation. As someone who is focused on being there for the people he cares about, he needs to fulfil his obligations securely, affordably, and, most importantly, quickly.
“LemFi is miles ahead." He expressed, "It's a classic app, different from regular. If you want sincerity, transparency, and swift payments, LemFi is the app to use."
Aside from LemFi offering him reliable, within-minute transfers, Peter also admires the app's simplicity, which played a crucial role during his mother's hospital emergency. Since then, as previously mentioned, he has included LemFi in his intentional connection to home.
Peter is one of over 1 million LemFi users, each with a story of resilience, love, and connection. His dedication reminds us that behind every transfer is a person who cares deeply for those at home.
“LemFi is too good to be true,” Peter said with a smile. “I advise everyone in the diaspora; this is the app you need."
At LemFi, we’re inspired by extraordinary users like Peter, whose strength and devotion motivate us to keep pushing for affordable, reliable, quick international payments for EVERYONE.
